Wright Diving BSAC School is a diver training facility which provides diving instruction on a regular basis, being one of a range of activities provided by Wright Diving dedicated to serving the needs of sports divers. 'On a regular basis' means providing courses of diving instruction at times convenient to members of the public i.e. during normal working hours.

Ocean Diver
This course provides you with the essential knowledge and skills needed to prepare for open water diving. Learning to dive is all about learning to use your equipment properly and safely. The Ocean Diver training course concentrates on preparing you for this in the safety of a swimming pool or sheltered water and then introducing you to open water in a controlled and safe manner. This also gives you the opportunity to practice safety skills in the company of a qualified instructor or experienced diver

Sports Diver
In Sports Diver training, the emphasis is on building a sound foundation of open water diving skills and experience through a series of structured practical lessons. Once you have gained this open water experience with a qualified instructor, you are ready to take part in dives with other Sports Divers or those of higher grades.
Dive Leader
Dive Leader training concentrates on the responsibilities and safety aspects of leading other divers on an open water dive. Practical lessons in rescue management and rescue skills will give you the confidence and ability to deal with those unforeseen emergencies. Leading a dive will develop your enjoyment, confidence and experience as a diver.

Advanced Diver
The Advanced Diver course further develops your knowledge and skills. You will gain experience in planning and organising dives at different sites and under different circumstances. Additional experience will be gained in using small boats, chartwork. navigation and many other related skills. The BSAC consider this grade a fully trained diver.
 
SDCs - Diving Specialties
Equipment Care
To acquaint the diver with the maintenance requirements of modern diving equipment, fault finding and rectification, what maintenance the owner may safely undertake and what should be left to a trained repair technician. This is a one day course requiring an Ocean Diver Qualification as a prequisite to enrolment


Dive Planning and Marshalling
To teach divers the importance of Dive Planning and Marshalling, and the correct procedures for doing so; and the need for a suitably qualified and experienced person to perform the function. Also, to give divers practical experience of dive marshalling. Duration Two days. Prequestite qualification Experienced Sport Diver

Search and Recovery
To instruct Sports Divers in the correct techniques and procedures involved in Search and Rescue projects, and to provide practical experience of underwater search methods and the use of buoyancy for lifting.

This is a two day course requiring an entry qualification of BSAC Sports Diver or eqivalent rating





Basic Nitrox up to 40%

Understand the subject of Enriched Air Nitrox diving. This comprehensive course covers the safety aspects of using Nitrox, mixing and analysis and the management and organisation of dives using Nitrox.





Advanced Nitrox

Teaches the use of a range of Nitrox mixes both as a bottom gas and as a decompression gas, plus the full use of the BSAC Nitrox Tables for 21%(Air), 27%, 32% and 36% Nitrox mixes.






Extended Range Diving

This three day course promotes more efficient, successful and safe deep diving techniques and encourages a responsible and flexible approach to extended range diving. Identifies the areas of potential problem, discusses the possibilities of management and resolution in practice.

CDA Boat Handling Course Two Day Course
AIM
The course is designed to give students, with little or no boat handling knowledge or experience, instruction in small boat handling, including techniques relevant to diving, and related safety knowledge.












CDA Diver Cox’n Assessment
AIM
The aim of the Diver Cox’n assessment is to assess a candidate’s practical boat handling skills, and the underpinning knowledge related to the general handling of small boats and to diving specific boat handling activities.

ENTRY GRADE
The CDA Diver Cox’n Assessment is open to any BSAC member over the age of 16. Candidates should either
• Have completed the BSAC Boat Handling Course, or equivalent and have accumulated at least 5 hours boat handling experience since completing the course
• Have at least 20 hours substantiated/logged boat handling experience




Chart work and positioning
This course provides an introduction to the art of marine chartwork and tidal predictions. Ideal for those looking for wrecks or new dive sites.





Automated External Defibrillation (AED) course
To train divers and others involved in BSAC diving activities with little or no knowledge and experience of Automated External Defibrillators (AED), in their use during a diving emergency situation according to Resuscitation Council (UK) guidelines, with particular attention to precautions required in the diving environment.



First Aid For Divers
AIM
To teach the basics of First Aid likely to be needed in the sports diving environment making use of the resources likely to be available at the time. This will include the improvisation of dressings, splints, etc., using materials and equipment commonly available on site or in the boat. This is a one day course with no entry level qualification required other than being a BSAC Member.



 


 

 

 







Oxygen Administration
AIM
To teach the administration of oxygen as a means of increasing the effectiveness of First Aid treatment of diving accidents.
It is implicit in this definition that the treatment takes place on the surface, either in a boat or on dry land. There is no question of administering oxygen to a submerged diver.

DURATION
One day.

ENTRY GRADE
BSAC Ocean (Club) Diver. This course may also be open to others, such as charter boat skippers.

Advanced Lifesaver
BSAC ADVANCED LIFESAVER AWARD - Sports Diver + Lifesaver - Exam Fee £15
Members who hold the BSAC Lifesaver Award (and ideally the Practical Rescue Management and First Aid for Divers certificates) may apply to take the Advanced Lifesaver Award. This one day examination includes a theory test and a practical evaluation of open water rescue skills.
